Mere’s story

Mere loves living at home and being cared for by her daughter and surrounded by her extended whanau. She especially adores her dog Patch who never leaves her side.

One of the challenges Mere and her family faced was having to pay for unfunded liquid food supplement that helped to maintain Mere’s weight and keep it in a safe range. The whanau were struggling to afford the supplement that was essential to keeping Mere alive because it was just so expensive. After asking their local Community Advisor for support and advocacy, the were able to get specialist approval so supplement could be funded. They were so relieved!

The Community Advisor also informed the whanau about the respite programme and even organized for her dog Patch to be able to visit Mere daily while in respite care. Mere enjoyed her two week break from home and the family did some much needed maintenance on the house so Mere returned to a warmer insulated home. Just in time for winter too. Mere was so pleased that the Community Advisor could help her sort some of the issues so life is just that little bit easier now.
